CAC’s commonly used terms:
Area of Interest – a focused area of study within an associate degree that ideally aligns to a university degree
Degree – a two-year qualification. Degrees such as the AA (Associate of Arts), AS (Associate of Science), and ABUS (Associate of Business) can be transferrable to a four-year institution while the AAS degree (Associate of Applied Science) prepares students to enter the workforce.
Pathway/Program – a focused area of study (like a major) that leads to a degree or certificate (i.e. Business, Culinary Arts, Early Childhood Education, English, Graphic Design, History, Welding)
Certificate – typically one to four semester course of study (qualification) that may lead to entry into the workforce or fulfills a portion of a degree.
